Wood Lanterns

Here are a couple of our new votive lanterns.  They are uniquely crafted from Birch wood with a translucent vellum insert allowing the battery powered votive to illuminate the designs.  The votive lights flicker to give the lanterns a natural dancing flame appearance.  We currently have a Honeycomb design and a Southwest design featuring Kokopelli, Cactus, and Lizards.  Lanterns will stand on their own or can be hung with a string or ribbon.  Each of our lanterns include a battery power votive and ribbon or hemp rope string for hanging.

More designs will be added soon.  If you’d like something custom please let us know, we can add in names or just about any design you can think of.

Laser Engraved Rock Art

We haven’t posted to our website in awhile so I thought now would be a good time.  I’m creating this to share with you the laser engraved rock art that we’ve been creating.  Like most people we are practicing social distancing and trying to find new ways to reach our customers and share with the community.

Many people are creating beautiful painted rocks and stones and placing for people in their communities to find.  We decided to do the same but with our lasers.  Below you will find some of the stones that we have created.  If you’re lucky enough to find one of our stones please share it and tag us on Facebook or Instagram or @BlastedByLight.

Now for the science part.  Rock are made of grains of various minerals.  When using a laser on them various effects can be achieved from light to dark marks, and deep or shallow.  The dark marks are formed through a process called vitrification where the minerals are heated to a melting point where they glassify.  In some of the pictures you will notice a smooth shiny wet look to the engraved area, this is the glassified mineral in the stone.  White marks are formed through high speed passes that have a clearing effect on the stones surface.  Not all rocks mark the same.  Sandstone doesn’t vitrify and easily marks white.  River rocks vary a lot but are pretty easy to get a nice black mark.  On one of the Kokopelli stones, I deep engraved it and then vitrified the shallow spot.  You can see the Arizona next to it that raised up from the surface.  These stones were all done with our Fiber laser but Co2 laser can also engrave stone, it just takes longer with some different effects.

AZDPS 6th Annual Memorial 5k

We recently engraved a pair of Hydro Flask bottles for the Arizona Department of Public Safety’s 6th Annual Memorial 5k Walk/Run.  The bottles will be awarded the men’s and women’s 1st Place runners.  The event honors Troopers who have given their lives while serving the Great State of Arizona.  Proceeds from the even go to Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S) Arizona.

The Memorial Run/Walk will take place at Reid Park in Tucson, AZ on Sunday, September 29th, 2019.

D.A.R. Fundraiser

Last year a chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution approached me about making items for a fundraiser.  I was asked to come up with a couple of items that would proudly represent their chapter and what they stand for.  We settled on a Bookmark with the American flag as the background along with a full color wrap around design for a coffee mug.  Through our sublimation equipment I was able to deliver mugs and bookmarks for DAR to sell at their monthly meetings.  I’m told the fundraiser was a success.

Fiber Lasers and cool stuff!

     Well It’s been awhile since I’ve update our Blog so here’s a some of what we’ve been working on.  This past December, after many month of research, we took delivery of our first MOPA Fiber Laser.  The fiber laser allows us to engrave on almost all metals as well as some other items such as stone, rocks, marble, leather and many plastics.  Typically Fiber lasers engrave on things that a CO2 laser will not but we’ve found there a number of things that overlap.  The fiber laser system we bought also allows us to add colors to stainless and titanium metals through annealing.  Another nice feature of the fiber is that it can also cut certain metals.  We’ve produced a few sets of earrings, charms, and pendants, which will eventually be for sale on our Etsy site.  If you see anything here you like or are interested in custom pieces please contact directly.

Stainless Tumblers

We can personalize the Star with your badge number.  DPS products are restricted to employees.

Personalized tumblers are available in 20, 30, and 40 ounce sized.  They’re great for keeping beverages Hot OR Cold. Coffee stays hot for hours and ice will easily last through the day or night.

The black tumblers are stainless with a black powder coating.  The powder coating is removed with a laser to reveal the logo of your choice.  We also offer Stainless (uncoated) tumblers that are engraved with a permanent black mark.

Most graphics can be used for laser engraving but sometimes they do need to be re-created for a sharper image.  If you have a custom graphic or design that you would like put on something it’s best to use the highest resolution available.  While Vector graphic formats are our preferred file format, others such as .JPG, .PNG, .GIF, .BMP, .EPS, .PDF, and others will usually work.  Busy backgrounds and pixelated images are very hard to work with and detract from the engraving quality so we try and avoid these or clean them up if possible.

Signs

These are a few of the signs that customers have ordered.
The Arizona and Lack of Planning signs are made with a CNC machine and the Thank you sign was cut with the CNC and the graphic applied using a Laser.

The bottom Thank You signs were ordered in bulk and give as employee appreciation signs.
